Although some countries, such as the United States, have their own systems for registering copyright material.

The Australian Copyright Council is an independent non profit organisation, founded in 1968, which has as main objectives to:

  • assist creators and other copyright owners to exercise their rights effectively;
  • raise awareness in the community generally about the importance of copyright;
  • research and identify areas of copyright law which are inadequate or unfair;
  • seek changes to law and practice to enhance the effectiveness and fairness of copyright;
  • foster cooperation amongst bodies representing creators and owners of copyright.
The Copyright Council has four full-time lawyers on staff, three of whom spend part of their time giving free legal advice. Because of their limited resources and their extra activities, not on all occasions you may be able to recive a legal advice but always you may get free information to your general enquirers.
