Patent Search Services:

Bibliographic Searches - to find out what was covered by a specific patent number or to find out what patents a particular inventor has to his or her credit.

Patentability Searches - to determine whether there are any previous patents (prior art) that might prevent the inventor from patenting his/her idea, whether his/her invention is:

While patentability searches can be performed early in the development of an invention, they are more commonly done prior to submitting a patent application.

State-of-the-Art Searches - to solve a specific problem, find technology to license, determine what the competition is up to, and for other similar purposes.

Continuing Searches - to perform a watching service online and by scanning the Australian Official Journal of Patents weekly under subclasses of interest. Generally these searches are of two types: keeping up with patent activity in areas of interest and keeping up with competitor's activities. A continuing search is nothing more than a current awareness search of recently issued patents.

Assignment Searches - to determine legal ownership of a patent. Assignment records of issued patents are public. However, licenses are not recorded in the Patent Office.

Infringement Searches - to determine if an unexpired patent is valid and enforceable.

The patent search report includes a listing of the classes and subclasses searched with their full description, copies of the closest patent references found, and a comparison of similarities and differences between art found and the disclosure materials.

Included with the patent search report are copies of patents considered relevant to the invention subject to the searching service. The search report also offers important instructions about applying for patent protection.

Trade Mark Search Services

Word Mark Search - to find out from all 42 classes whether a particular word has been registered or is a keyword as/in a registered Trade Mark or applied for.

Descriptive Device (Graphic/Logo) Keyword Search - to find out from all 42 classes whether a descriptive keyword is a distinctive element in a registered Trade Mark or applied for.

Phonetic Equivalent Word Search - to find out from all 42 classes whether to a given Word Mark there is a phonetic equivalent word registered or applied as/for a Trade Mark.

Prefix/Infix/Suffix Search - to find out from all 42 classes whether a given Word Mark is a syllable well-defined and unequivocal distinguished element of a registered Trade Mark or applied for.

Continuing Search - to perform a watching service online and by scanning the weekly Australian Official Journal of Trade Marks under the goods and services classes of interest, applicant name index.

Common Law Search - to conduct a comprehensive research including the Australian Securities Commission database for company names, the Department of Fair Trading for business names, and other reference s from specialised libraries.
